Grayhawk Golf Club
The Grayhawk Golf Club is also appealing for its exceptional shopping, restaurant and bar.
The Golf Shop & Trading Company is more of a golf boutique than a pro shop. You will find the latest golf apparel as well as a host of upscale specialty items and brand names.
The Quill Creek Café features a traditional American menu with a Southwestern flare and high-quality clubhouse feel. Both the dining room and the patio offer stunning views of the golf course, the lake and the nearby McDowell Mountains.
Phil’s Grill, named after Grayhawk’s PGA Tour ambassador Phil Mickelson, is a relaxed eating and drinking establishment with a warm sports pub ambiance. The dining room features many items of memorabilia from Phil’s days at Arizona State University and highlights from his stellar PGA Tour career.
The Grayhawk Talon Golf Course
Designed by former U.S. Open and PGA Champion David Graham and golf course architect Gary Panks in 1994, Grayhawk’s Talon Course is one of the most exciting and dramatic tests of golf in the Southwest. This course provides you with breathtaking views of the nearby McDowell Mountains as well as the distant skyline of Phoenix and Scottsdale. The course blends with its natural surroundings. The back nine of the golf course was built around a series of deep box canyons and many holes skirt thick stands of Mesquite, Palo Verde and Ironwood trees while ancient Saguaros and numerous species of native flowering plants dot the out-of-play areas. As a design element, the fairways appear smaller than their true size – adding a component of confidence to the scoring equation.
The Grayhawk Raptor Golf Course
Designed by Tom Fazio in 1995, this course offers a thrilling challenge that commands a player’s respect through a daring, high-stakes game of risk and reward. The Raptor golf course has strategically placed fairway bunkers that can quickly transform an offline drive into a scramble for bogey. The greens tend to be large, with a fair amount of undulation. Wayward approaches are duly penalized as most of the greens are perched above deep bunkers and grass collection areas. Fazio utilized water sparingly, but where it does come into play, he created intriguing hazards that add drama as well as aesthetic value to the golf course.
RATES AND FEES
Both of the Grayhawk Golf Courses are daily fee courses. There are no membership dues or monthly fees. The courses thus appeal to many second home owners and visitors. They are able to play at an exclusive country club level course without onerous dues. The “pay as you play” structure is very attractive to those homeowners who only reside in Scottsdale a few weeks or months per year. There is no discount for Grayhawk homeowners. However, residents can enjoy monthly golf specials throughout the year. These specials feature 18 holes, prizes and often, complimentary food.
