With Martin Kaymer’s big win at the U.S. Open in June, Whisper Rock can now boast a total of 11 championships in its ultra-elite roster—though you probably won’t hear members boasting about it any time soon.
The German golfer is just one of many PGA champions that have played as members of Whisper Rock, a notoriously exclusive golf club located in beautiful North Scottsdale. Along with Kaymer, the club has welcomed into its membership Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson, Geoff Ogilvy, and Fred Couples. And they’re not the only big names on the list. Around 30 PGA Tour players are reported to be members of Whisper Rock, including Paul Casey, Todd Demsey, Aaron Baddeley, and several others.
Members of the prestigious private club may even run into Gary McCord and Peter Kostis on the course or at the bar.
Despite its high-profile membership, Whisper Rock maintains a surprisingly low profile. Hushed, humble and easygoing, this club offers a distinct “hang out” atmosphere where professional and amateur golfers can socialize, grab a drink and have an all-around good time. Members are brought together by a love for the game, not by their egos.
To drive this point home, all prospective members of this invite-only club are required to pay a hefty initiation fee. While many other clubs may hand out freebies to PGA Pros, there are no exceptions at Whisper Rock. Memberships currently go for around $130,000, and there are only about 550 members.
