The Medal Play Golf Tour visited Troon North Pinnacle in Scottsdale on Saturday. “The wind kicked up and the greens were fast,” commented tour director Blane Freytag. “But that didn’t deter good scoring today. We had some excellent play on a very challenging course.”
The Championship Division saw tour rookie Kurt Chambers bounce back from a rough outing at SunRidge Canyon to fire an impressive net 71 (even par) to claim his first victory on tour. Andy Castro was on his heels with a net 76 while Todd Ringsmuth and Tristan Crook tied for 3rd. Larry Stutheit shot the round of his life for the win and a promotion to the Championship Division for his next event. “I never missed a putt,” commented Stutheit on his fine play. Joe White and Tim Lutz tied for 2nd with net 72’s with White edging Lutz on the scorecard playoff.
Matt Horner continued his winning ways in the Silver Division by outlasting Bob Hickman for the win. Horner has been on a hot streak lately winning his 4th event in a row. In the World Golfers Championship Qualifier, we had Bill Leto and Loenardus Leufkens qualify for the National Finals out of a field of six. Congratulations as they move on to Nationals in San Antonio, TX in late September.
The tour returns to action at Southern Dunes on Sunday June 26th.
