Heard Museum North to Close this May

January 20, 2014 by Carmen Brodeur

For many Troon North art lovers, the Heard Museum has been a beloved part of the cultural scene in North Scottsdale. This hidden gem, located at The Summit on Scottsdale Road, is tucked behind thick screen of heard museum scottsdalebrush and cacti and can often be overlooked from the street. Nevertheless, it has served the community for years with its magnificent galleries, unique exhibitions and special programs and events.

It was recently announced that the Heard Museum North will be leaving its current location at the end of May when its lease at The Summit expires. The galleries are scheduled to close on April 1, although the Garden Café and Shop will remain open until May 1. James Pepper Henry, the director and CEO of the Heard Museum, expressed his appreciation for the museum’s many partners and supporters in North Scottsdale.

It was stated that the current economic atmosphere cannot support the long-term sustainability of the museum’s northern facility. However, the Heard Museum aims to continue its outreach in the North Valley through other outlets, and the Phoenix location is still open to the public. The Heard Museum North will continue with its scheduled events and programs for January through April. These include:

  • “Fashion Flash Sale” on Sunday, January 26 and Monday, January 27
  • Nights at North Events on Wednesday nights from January 29 to February 19
  • “Southwestern Tribes” Short Course on Mondays, March 10-31
  • Spring Shop Sale from Friday, April 4 through Sunday, April 6

If you are planning fun activities for your winter vacation in Troon or simply want to enjoy a delectable holiday meal close to home, you will want to visit the Four Seasons Resort to check out its wonderful holiday offerings.

Guests and visitors have been wowed in the past by the spectacular gingerbread display at the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale. In 2011, resort chefs captured the magic of the season with a breathtaking puzzle-themed piece featuring 20 gingerbread houses and even a train! This year’s creation – a gingerbread village complete with a classic candy wonderland – promises to be equally impressive. The village will be on display in the resort lobby.

Love holiday music? Check out various performances taking place throughout December at the Four Seasons Resort. There will be a jazz trio performing on certain Friday evenings, as well as a middle-school choir concert on Wednesday, December 18th.

If you’re looking to dine out during the holidays, try one of two great restaurants located at the Four Seasons Resort. Both Proof and Talavera will be hosting specials during the month of December to celebrate the season. Proof, an American Canteen will be continuing its “to-go” pies and sides special for anyone who wishes to save some time with their holiday dinners. Order anything from buttermilk mashed potatoes to sweet potato pudding, and pick up between December 21st and January 5th for the perfect addition to your meal.

Proof will also be holding a Christmas Day lunch/dinner special, featuring mouthwatering choices such as sweet crab and corn bisque, sage apple stuffing, Diestel farm turkey and more. At Talavera, you can enjoy an exquisite 3-course Christmas Eve dinner or Christmas Day buffet.

Celebrate the holidays in style this year at Troon North Scottsdale. To set a time to view Troon homes, call (602) 791-0536, or email me at Carmen@TopScottsdaleHomes.com.

New Brown’s Ranch Trailhead Now Open to the Public

November 29, 2013 by Carmen Brodeur

The recently opened Brown’s Ranch Trailhead, located in the northern region of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve near Troon North, has been the talk of the town since its debut in October. Hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders and dog walkers are flocking to the popular new hub to access a vast network of new and existing trails. Among these is the new Jane Rau Interpretive Trail, named after one of the co-founders of the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy.

Brown's Ranch TrailheadThe trail was dubbed in Rau’s honor for her tireless efforts to protect the lands now encompassed within the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Much of the land accessed through the Brown’s Ranch Trailhead is full of rich history, and like the rest of the Preserve, it is home to many diverse species of flora and fauna. The Jane Rau Interpretive Trail is a short, simple loop that is accessible to hikers of all skill levels and features several educational exhibits.

Another popular trail that is accessed through the Brown’s Ranch Trailhead involves an invigorating 2.7-mile climb up to the top of Brown’s Mountain. From here you can view the site and remaining structures of the historical Brown’s Ranch below. When you are ready to return to the trailhead, you can close up the loop with a 1.5-mile stretch back, or you can return the way you came for a longer hike. There are also several options for scenic detours you can take on your way to Brown’s Mountain, depending on how far you want to hike.

If you enjoy spending time in the beautiful outdoors and haven’t already been to the Brown’s Ranch Trailhead, it’s definitely worth a visit. There are also numerous other access points to the preserve that are close to the Troon area. Troon is one of the best places in Scottsdale to experience the wonders of the Sonoran Desert.
